POSITION: Income Tax Preparer & Manager

LOCATION: Progreso Latino — Central Falls, RI

TYPE OF POSITION: Seasonal Position: Part or Full Time for 26 Weeks


The VITA Program Manager is responsible for the planning, implementation, and successful execution of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Central Falls, RI. Reports to: VITA Operations Director Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in hiring of a seasonal employee as site coordinator. 2. Supervise team of paid and volunteer staff. 3. Supervise all college internships. 4. Ensure volunteers have the best possible experience at VITA while ensuring high quality tax preparation services for clients. 5. Manage VITA client and volunteer scheduling systems. 6. Execute a marketing plan for the VITA program. 7. Maintain all equipment (computers, printers, etc.) 8. Ensure that processes are in place at the site to treat each client with respect, while maintaining privacy and confidentiality. 9. Work closely with 2-1-1 during tax season to screen and schedule clients, as well as deal with client issues. 10. Coordinate with VITA staff and volunteer team to resolve client tax issues. 11. Oversee the site during tax season. 12. Partner with outside agencies, organizations, governmental entities, and community partner organizations to execute the VITA program. 13. Assist in the planning and implementation of procedures at tax preparation site. Develop procedures and manuals to ensure that sites run smoothly, including but not limited to the areas of greeting and screening clients, processing intake forms, processing tax forms, troubleshooting, quality control, tracking client information and data, and transmitting returns to the IRS. 14. Ensure that all quality site requirements are followed always to protect United Way of Lancaster County and all volunteers from liability. 15. Work with specific agencies to facilitate the preparation of resident tax returns through VITA. 16. Maintain VITA tax preparation certification at advanced level 17. Recruit new volunteers to become trained and certified as VITA tax preparers through various channels and strategies, as well as retain and engage current VITA volunteers. 18. Plan and execute training program for new and returning volunteers 19. Ensure compliance with all IRS rules and regulations Special Assignments. The manager is also expected to assist with tax preparation and quality review when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Dedication to VITA’s mission • Tax preparation experience • Volunteer or general management experience, prefered • Microsoft Office proficient • Bilingual in Spanish and English • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously • Ability to perform with minimal supervision • Excellent collaborative skills • Experience working with other community-based organizations • Organized, detail Oriented • Comfortable with community outreach and public speaking • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
